If you’ve ever thought “Pilates isn’t for me,” think again.
Whether you're young or young at heart, super fit or just starting out, recovering from injury or looking to boost your strength — Pilates is for every body and everybody.
Pilates was developed by a man named Joseph Pilates as a mind-body movement focussed on control, breathwork and precision. Classes can be done on a mat or with Pilates equipment like the Reformer, Cadillac, or Wunda Chair — all designed to help improve strength and stability.
At its core, Pilates is a highly adaptable, full-body workout that strengthens, lengthens, and aligns your body — without the high impact of traditional gym workouts. It’s one of the most effective ways to improve core strength, posture, flexibility, and body awareness, no matter your age, size, or fitness level.

How I Started My Journey With Pilates
A bit about me, I’m Kerry, and I fell in love with Pilates during a period of time where fitting in any exercise was becoming a challenge. I was working a high-stress job, travelling the world, working ridiculous hours and not looking after my wellbeing - both physically and mentally! I needed something quick and accessible, that’s when I started trying out different online Pilates videos and I loved it. Not only did it provide me with a full body workout, but I wasn’t thinking about everything I had to do that day or the next day, I was focussed on me and my body.
When I finished my travelling for the season, I decided I wanted to know more, started my teacher training course, not with any real plan of becoming a teacher but more because I wanted to know how it all worked to better myself and my own practice. Then I decided to do some drastic - I stepped away from my high-stress job (and have never looked back!), got a full-time position doing a regular 9-5 and started teaching around that job. And that’s where I am now!
Why Pilates Is So Effective
What makes Pilates stand out from other workouts? It’s the focus on alignment, breath, and control. You're not just going through the motions — you're building conscious movement patterns that carry over into your everyday life.
You’ll develop:
Stronger core muscles
Improved posture
Greater flexibility and mobility
Better body awareness
Lower stress and improved mental focus
And because Pilates is low-impact, it’s kind to your joints — making it perfect for those dealing with stiff joints, pain or recovering from injuries.
All Ages, All Stages
Pilates is one of the most inclusive forms of exercise out there. It’s not about how you look — it’s about how you feel. Certified instructors can tailor each session to suit your individual needs, so whether you’re:
A complete beginner
Managing pain or recovering from surgery
An older adult looking to maintain mobility
A new mum rebuilding core strength
A desk worker with poor posture
Or an athlete looking to improve performance...
There’s a place for you in the Pilates world.
Not Just for the Flexible or Fit
You don’t need to be super flexible, strong, or athletic to start Pilates — that’s what the practice helps develop over time. It’s a misconception that Pilates is only for the already fit. In fact, many people start Pilates because they want to gain strength, reduce pain, improve posture, or simply feel more comfortable in their bodies.
Mind-Body Connection
Pilates encourages you to slow down and connect with your breath and movement. This mindful approach can be particularly beneficial if you live a fast-paced life or struggle with stress or anxiety. The focus on control and concentration brings a calm clarity that carries over beyond the session.
Rehab to High-Performance
From physiotherapy clinics to elite sports training, Pilates is used across a wide spectrum. It’s known for supporting injury recovery and prevention, as well as improving balance, coordination, and functional movement patterns. That makes it a perfect complement to any fitness regime — or a standalone practice for lifelong wellness.
